Welcome to My Kitchen!
Hi there! I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my little corner of the internet where good food and real life intersect.
My love affair with cooking began when I was just tall enough to peek over the kitchen counter, watching my family prepare meals and begging to help stir the pot. What started as childhood curiosity has grown into a lifelong passion that shapes everything from my daily routines to my professional work.
My Cooking Journey
For the past 20 years, I’ve been the main chef in our household, which means I’ve had plenty of practice turning everyday ingredients into meals that bring our family together. But perhaps my proudest kitchen accomplishment is teaching our two boys that cooking isn’t just about feeding yourself—it’s about nourishing your body, showing love to others, and developing skills that will serve you for life.
Watching them grow from tentative stirrers to confident cooks who can prepare proper, nutritious meals has reminded me daily why I’m so passionate about making good cooking accessible to everyone.
The Academic Side
My professional background in nutrition and consumer studies has given me a unique perspective on how we think about and interact with food. I currently serve as an associate professor in a consumer studies program, where I explore the fascinating intersection of food choices, behavior, and culture. Previously, I taught in health and nutrition programs, and my current research focuses on plant-based food consumption patterns.
This academic foundation influences how I approach recipes and cooking, but don’t worry—you won’t find any lengthy lectures here! Instead, it just means I’m always thinking about how to make meals both delicious and nourishing.
My Food Philosophy
You’ll notice that plants and vegetables take center stage in most of my recipes, not because I’m trying to convert anyone to a specific way of eating, but because I’ve found that vegetables are often the most flavorful, colorful, and exciting part of any meal. They’re also usually the most affordable way to add nutrition and variety to your plate.
That said, you’ll find all types of recipes here—from hearty meat dishes to indulgent desserts. I believe good food is inclusive food, and my goal is to share recipes that work for real families with real schedules and real budgets.
What You’ll Find Here
Every recipe I share has been tested in my own kitchen, often multiple times and usually with input from my two toughest critics (my boys!). I focus on:
Practical Recipes: Dishes that work for busy weeknights and special occasions alike Clear Instructions: Step-by-step guidance that builds confidence in the kitchen
Flexible Approaches: Suggestions for substitutions and variations to fit your pantry and preferences Real Food: Meals made with ingredients you can actually find and afford
Beyond the Recipes
Cooking has taught me that the best meals aren’t always the most complicated ones—they’re the ones made with intention, shared with people you care about, and enjoyed without pressure or perfection. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or someone just starting to explore the kitchen, I hope you’ll find inspiration, practical tips, and maybe a few new favorite recipes here.
Let’s Connect
I love hearing from fellow food enthusiasts! Whether you’ve tried one of my recipes, have a question about cooking techniques, or just want to share your own kitchen adventures, don’t hesitate to reach out. After all, the best part about cooking is sharing it with others.
Thanks for stopping by, and happy cooking!
